Joint Statement The Ninth ASEAN Plus Three Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (9th AMMTC + 3) Consultation

Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar  1 November 2018

  1. We, the Ministers/ Representatives of ASEAN Member States, the People’s Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea responsible for handling transnational crime matters, convened the Ninth ASEAN Plus Three Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime(9th AMMTC+3) Consultation in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on 1 November 2018. The Consultation was chaired by the AMMTC Leader of Myanmar, Lieutenant General Kyaw Swe, Union Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
  2. We reaffirmed the significant role of the ASEAN Plus Three cooperation framework in countering the emerging threats of transnational crime and reiterated our commitment to further strengthen cooperation against these challenges in order to ensure and promote peace and stability in accordance with the principle of comprehensive security.
  3. We took note of the outcomes of the Sixteenth ASEAN Plus Three Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (16th SOMTC+3) Consultation held in Putrajaya, Malaysia on 26 September 2018 and the Preparatory SOMTC+3 for the 9th AMMTC+3 Consultation in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on 30 October 2018.
  4. We commended the progress of implementation of the transnational component of the ASEAN Plus Three Cooperation Work Plan 2018-2022 and looked forward to further intensify our practical cooperation through exchange of information and best practices as well as capacity building efforts in a timely and effective manner.
  5. We exchanged views on the need to further strengthen the existing ASEAN Plus Three cooperation in combating transnational crimes, including our efforts in addressing the rise of radicalisation and violent extremism, other new forms of transnational crime, as well as the impact of rapidly emerging new technology.
  6. We welcomed the offer by Thailand to host the 10th AMMTC +3 Consultation in 2019.
  7. We expressed our deep appreciation to the Government and people of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar for their warm welcome and generous hospitality accorded to us and our respective delegations, as well as for the excellent arrangements made for the Meeting.
