Under the motto “A unified ASEAN for poverty eradication amid the global economic crisis,” AMRDPE 6 will take place on May 25-29 in Hà Nội, with two main conferences, Pre-SOMRDPE 6 and SOMRDPE+3.
Addressing the opening ceremony of SOMRDPE+3, Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Đức Phát praised the ASEAN+3’s cooperation mechanism in rural development and poverty reduction. He strongly believed that SOMRDPE+3 is a helpful forum for member states to gather and discuss solutions for further development.
The AMRDPE 6 takes place when various global issues have arisen and affected the realization of the United Nations-advocated millennium development goals (MDGs). Therefore, closer cooperation and new initiatives are in need at regional level to reduce poverty and develop rural areas, said the Vietnamese Minister.
Minister Phát asserted that, Việt Nam always appreciates international and regional cooperation in this field to successfully realize the ASEAN action plans and UN’s MDGs.
He suggested delegates figure out a proper model of cooperation for the sake of rural residents, perfect the ongoing programs, find a new approach for poverty reduction and rural development; and enhance investment to narrow the gaps among ASEAN members and between these countries with Northeast Asian partners.
