Jakarta (ANTARA) – Secretary General of the Ministry of Manpower, Anwar Sanusi, said that ASEAN and three partner countries, namely China, Japan and South Korea, have agreed to increase cooperation in the field of employment.

“From the discussion at the SLOM meeting, the three partner countries (PRC, Japan and the Republic of Korea) are very open to various opportunities to collaborate in the field of employment,” said Anwar Sanusi to the media after attending the 18th Senior Labor Officials Meeting Plus Three (SLOM+3) meeting. virtually in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Anwar explained that one of the job opportunities in Japan that is being widely opened for foreign workers, especially from Indonesia, is as a nurse or caregiver. The caregiver’s job is to care for the elderly there.

Meanwhile, the Republic of Korea, he continued, also supports various regional employment cooperation to stop human trafficking in ASEAN. South Korea agreed to work together to increase the protection and promotion of migrant workers’ rights from exploitation and abuse. Including, strengthening the protection and promotion of migrant workers’ rights by improving labor governance in ASEAN countries. “Moreover, Indonesia also has a Labor Attaché in Korea. Hopefully after the COVID-19 pandemic, we can improve the quality of the workforce we will send to Korea,” he said. Secretary General Anwar Sanusi said that China had also offered cooperation with several ASEAN countries on many issues. For example, regarding Occupational Safety and Health (K3) or ASEAN Occupational Safety and Health (ASEAN-OSHNET). “Hopefully we can make the best use of this SLOM+3 momentum for the next two years, for the progress of ASEAN in general, and the progress of employment in Indonesia,” he said.
